Preparing the Temple: Beginning with Intention

Updated: 3 days ago

I don’t know about you, but the start of a new year always feels like the reset I actually need. After the holidays, routines get a little loose, energy feels off, and let’s be honest… it’s easy to feel like you fell off a bit. I know I did. January always reminds me that it’s okay to pause, reset, and get back to what I know supports me — without beating myself up in the process.

That’s why this week, I’ve been thinking about a verse that’s been sitting with me:

“Daniel resolved not to defile himself…” — Daniel 1:8

And before this sounds heavy, let me say this upfront — this isn’t about perfection. It’s about intention.

Let’s Be Real About Food for a Second

Food affects more than our waistlines. It affects how we feel, how much energy we have, how clear our minds are, and how we show up day to day. When we’re eating whatever, whenever, and on the go all the time, our bodies feel it. Our minds feel it too.

And I’m not saying that with judgment — I’m saying it because I’ve lived it.

When I slow down and choose foods that actually support me, something shifts. I feel lighter. More focused. Less foggy. More like myself again.

That’s what Daniel did. He made a decision to stay aligned with what he knew was right for him — even when other options were available.

Small Choices Count More Than You Think

One thing I want you to hear clearly is this: you don’t have to change everything at once.

We get into trouble when we think a reset has to be extreme. It doesn’t.

A reset can look like:

  • Drinking more water

  • Adding one more vegetable to your plate

  • Eating one meal without distractions

  • Actually paying attention to how your body feels

That’s it. Small things. Simple things.

Those choices add up. And they’re way more sustainable than trying to overhaul your whole life in one week.

Honoring Your Body Isn’t Extra — It’s Necessary

I truly believe our bodies are gifts. And taking care of them isn’t about being strict or obsessive — it’s about respect. When we choose foods that nourish us, we’re giving ourselves the energy to do the things we’re called to do. To serve. To love. To show up fully.

And just so we’re clear — I’m not writing this from some “I’ve got it all figured out” place. I’m right here with you. Resetting. Refocusing. Beginning again.

A Gentle Reminder as You Start This Week

Whether you’re participating in a fast, making a small shift, or just trying to be more mindful, you’re not behind. You’re not late. And you’re not alone. If this week feels like a reset you need too, you’re right on time.

One small choice can make a big difference. I’ll walk with you.
