If you are looking for an easy DIY abstract art project, follow these simple steps to create your own masterpiece.
It's been two years since I moved back into my house. Filled with excitement, I created a Pinterest design board for each room as a source of comfort during a challenging period. My plan was to renovate every corner of the house, from repainting kitchen cabinets to changing socket faceplates. Although it was a massive task, I've been steadily working through the list for the past two years. My focus has been primarily on major projects, causing me to almost overlook the smaller tasks.

For more than a year now, there has been a blank canvas resting above my couch in the sitting room. The frame originally held a painting that no longer appealed to me, but the frame itself was still in good condition. I decided to paint over the old picture with some spare white paint and then lost focus and moved on to larger projects, putting off this simpler task. However, with an event coming up this weekend, the time has finally arrived to complete this quick project.

STEP 1. Gather Your Supplies
In a classic do-it-yourself approach, I utilized materials on hand and managed to keep my expenses below $10 bucks!
Left-over floor paint in black - $0
Acrylic Gold Paints - $7
Used paint brushes - $0
Old blanket used as tarp - $0
Paper towels or cloth for cleanup - $0
STEP 2. Choose Your Design
I knew I wanted to go for a more abstract look, so this task was going to be a piece of cake. No need to sketch anything beforehand. We are painting outside of the lines today!

STEP 3. Prep Surface
I was unable to detach the canvas from the frame without causing harm to the backing. Therefore, I had to tape off the inner part of the frame, which was constructed from a canvas material.

STEP 4. Start Painting Background
Start by applying the black base coat. I opted for a uniform black foundation that transitions into sweeping brushstrokes to add texture and dimension.
Continue moving forward and create the design that appeals to you.

STEP 5. Add Finishing Touches
I wanted to create a dripping effect with the gold. By angling the frame, I poured the bottle of gold paint along the faded section of the black. Then I returned the frame to an upright position to allow the gold to flow down the canvas.

STEP 6. Add Additional Finishing Touches
After letting the paint dry for about 10 minutes, I wanted to jazz it up a bit, so I went for the other gold paint. I used the same technique to apply the gold glitter paint, but this didn't drip at all! With a small brush, I gently spread the glitter paint downwards to create a drip effect,
By following these steps, you can easily create your own beautiful painting and unleash your creativity in under 30 minutes!
Voila! I flipped the painting upside down for an even more abstract look.

Make sure your artwork is completely dry before you hang it up. Adding your signature can make your piece look more professional.
